Our approach has been the same from the very beginning: a family does not choose on colour, sex or the prettiest photo alone. We watch the puppies as they grow - their reactions, their relationship with people, activity, persistence, sensitivity to their surroundings, willingness to cooperate and a great many small things that, after a few weeks, begin to come together into a fairly clear picture of character.<\/p>\n
At the same time, we also get to know the people who contact us.<\/p>\n
One person is looking for their first dog and wants a friend for the family. Another has already raised several Aussies and is looking for more character and activity. Someone dreams of agility, frisbee or obedience. For someone else, long walks, travel and a dog who can lie quietly by the sofa in the evening matter more. One family has small children, another already has several dogs, and someone else is looking for a very specific partner for a very specific activity.<\/p>\n And this is where the most interesting part begins.<\/p>\n It may be that before a litter is born we are talking to many experienced, active people. Yet the litter grows up with several very pleasant, fairly adaptable puppies for whom we would actually prefer a simpler family life.<\/p>\n Sometimes it is the other way round. We have many families looking for their first dog, while one puppy is growing up very quick, persistent, independent or with a lot of potential for work. In that case we do not rush to place him just because \u2018someone is waiting\u2019.<\/p>\n We wait for the person with whom that dog will have a better chance of being understood.<\/p>\n Sometimes families want a calm companion, while at that moment we have a puppy who clearly loves working, learns very fast and keeps asking: \u2018what are we doing now?\u2019 It would be a shame to send a dog like that into a life in which nobody will offer him anything to do.<\/p>\n But in exactly the same way, it would not be right to place a calm, more sensitive and very family-minded puppy with someone who dreams of intensive sport, just because the puppy happens to be \u2018available\u2019 at the time.<\/p>\n In breeding it is very easy to give in to a strange logic: the puppies are eight weeks old, so they all have to leave.<\/p>\n We do not think that way.<\/p>\n Of course, we want the puppies to begin life with their families as early as possible. New people, a new environment and an individual bond are very important. But a few extra weeks at the kennel are not a tragedy if the alternative is fifteen years of the wrong match.<\/p>\n What matters far more to us is what happens in a year, in five or in ten.<\/p>\n Will the person enjoy their dog? Will they understand its temperament? Will the dog be given the kind of everyday life in which it can feel good? Will the traits that seem interesting and lovely to us now later become a problem for the person, simply because they expected a completely different dog?<\/p>\n That is why sometimes the answer is simply - we have not yet found the right person<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Not because nobody wanted him.<\/p>\n Well-known kennels that breed responsibly usually have no great difficulty finding people who want a puppy. There are plenty of people who want an Aussie.<\/p>\n The harder part is finding the people for whom a particular Aussie is right.<\/p>\n And the better you know your dogs, the harder it becomes simply to say: \u2018you're first in the queue - this one is yours.\u2019<\/p>\n Sometimes we even tell someone who has been eagerly waiting for a puppy that we do not see a suitable match for them in this litter. It is not a pleasant conversation, either for them or for us. But it is much better to be disappointed today and wait for the next litter than to realise a year later that everyday life with the dog has turned out completely different from what was expected.<\/p>\n In just the same way, some puppies stay with us longer.<\/p>\n They are not \u2018left over\u2019.<\/p>\n They simply have not yet met their person<\/strong>.<\/p>\n To a puppy it makes essentially no difference whether he found his new family first, fifth or last in the litter.<\/p>\n What matters to him is where he will live afterwards.<\/p>\n So we do not look at a puppy who is still at the kennel as a problem to be solved as quickly as possible. We keep raising him, socialising him, teaching him, watching him and getting to know him better and better. Sometimes it is exactly those extra weeks that let us understand much more precisely what kind of person he needs.<\/p>\n And then a family comes along, and very often everything becomes quite simple.<\/p>\n You look at the person, you look at the dog, and you think - there, that is why it was worth waiting.<\/p>\n We are not a commercial kennel.
