THE BREED · READ THIS BEFORE YOU FALL FOR THE EYES

an Aussie
Shepherd

A herding dog with a working mind, an athlete's body and a heart that attaches itself to you. Wonderful when occupied. Genuinely difficult when bored. Not for everyone - and that is deliberate.

Exterior

A medium-sized, harmonious dog built for a full day's work - slightly longer than tall, with a weather-resistant double coat. Males - 51–58 cm, females - 46–53 cm. Four recognised colours - blue merle, red merle, black and red - with or without copper and white markings.

Those famous eyes can be brown, blue, amber or any combination - including one of each. Beautiful, yes. But the whole build of the body is made for moving, turning and working.

Character

Australian Shepherd portrait from above

Clever, loyal and strongly oriented towards people. An Aussie wants to take part in everything you do - he reads your habits, anticipates your routine and takes his job seriously, even if that job - watching the children.

That same intelligence comes at a price: an unoccupied Aussie invents work for himself, and you will not like his choices. Reserved with strangers by standard - early, thoughtful socialisation matters.

03

Health and testing

A fundamentally healthy, long-lived breed - when breeders do the quiet work. Before every pairing we test hips and elbows (dysplasia), eyes and DNA for the diseases known in the breed: HSF4 cataract, CEA, PRA, MDR1 drug sensitivity and DM.

Hips & elbows

X-ray evaluation before breeding - we pair only healthy scores

Eyes

Examined by a certified veterinary ophthalmologist

DNA panel

HSF4 · CEA · PRA · MDR1 · DM - carriers are never paired with carriers

Each parent's results are public on their profiles - take a look our dogs page.

Life with an Aussie

Plan one to two hours of real activity every day - walks are the minimum, not the goal. Training, scent work, agility, herding, canicross or simply being your shadow on every journey: an Aussie needs work, and that work can be your shared life.

A flat in the city - that is perfectly fine, if the routine holds. Our own goal is exactly that: working-capable Aussies who live well in the city. The coat asks for a weekly brush and patience twice a year.

Is an Aussie actually your dog?

The questionnaire is our open check: fifteen minutes that have saved more than one family (and dog) a year of the wrong choice. No sugar-coating, no obligations.
