LITTER ASSESSMENT
Seven vivid personalities - a noisy, cheerful winter litter. All seven are sociable, bold, with an excellent “call” reflex: whoever is called comes running first.

“I pick up first!”
Always first to the door - a greeter full of energy.
Independent, extremely interested in his surroundings, marked by boldness and persistence. No mummy's boy. He needs his owner to work on desensitising him to being handled. Building safe, trust-based contact is essential. RIO is curious and eagerly explores his surroundings, so systematic, good-quality desensitisation to the stimuli of the environment he lives in is a must. Rio is a typical Australian Shepherd: a strong prey drive and a wish to explore the world with his teeth. He knows what belongs to him and tends to make the point. Depending on where he lives, this can be either an asset or a drawback. RIO is wary of strangers and will become an ideal dog for his owner if that owner puts in the effort and work to build a bond with him. RIO would be happiest living outside the city centre, but dropping into town for a coffee.

“What's over there?”
Cosmic curiosity: every object has to be investigated.
Positive, good fun, and inclined to have opinions of his own. Cosmo solves problems himself. He likes to confirm his decisions with a bark. Cosmo needs rules and consistency in training; steady, clear guidance and structure are essential. Cosmo will need to be taught patience and self-control: to think first and act afterwards. For an inexperienced person Cosmo may be too intense, though, as always, experience is gained by doing, so the right attitude matters. Ideally Cosmo would enjoy life in the suburbs, or in a new housing area on the edge of town, where there are fewer stimuli and more time can be spent with his person.

“All quiet on the line.”
Easy-going, soft of step - heavenly calm.
Sky is a contact-oriented dog with a good prey drive, little vocalisation and an ability to accept situations as they come. Sky may suit less experienced owners. She likes being touched and being with people. These qualities could make her a wonderful family dog. It is important for her owners to work on the puppy's self-confidence, so Sky is not the right puppy for a very strong, hard, rough or domineering personality. Emotional, sweet, sincere. She is likely to bond very strongly with her person, so work on building independence is essential from an early age.

“A friend to everyone.”
A classic companion: friendly to everyone, loyal to his own.
The Aussie golden mean. Drive - good, contact - good, an excellent prey drive, fairly calm, not highly strung. He has no fears and is interested in people. Charlie is a very gentle puppy, well suited to travel and to a variety of activities. He will be a stable, good dog if the work is put in and he is not spoiled. That does not mean there will be no work to do with Charlie. Like the other males in the litter he will be a serious dog who challenges his owner - but in his case he is excellent for anyone wanting to try a wide range of activities and hold their own among professionals.

“I'll call you back.”
Graceful and cautious, but with her own people the greatest cuddler of all.
Leila is stable, active and curious. Perhaps a touch cheeky. She has a strong, stable character, is busy, and WANTS things to do. It is very important not to overdo stimulation with her: with a ball and a frisbee it would seemingly not be hard to “spoil” her stability and turn her into a reactive dog. She tends not to share her toys, as though provoking you to play and chase her. That tells us she will want to guard her possessions. A willingness to share needs to be worked on from an early age. This will help avoid possible resource guarding. Leila is tougher than Sky, and suits a more experienced person, or one who is genuinely serious about the job. Leila will need clear rules, so an “artistic” owner is not the right fit.

“Don't hang up!”
A little bomb of energy - games without end.
Compliant, curious, inclined to accept situations and circumstances fairly calmly; she does not make a drama of things. A toy revealed that Zuzi is possessive. We recommend interacting with her in a friendly way and swapping forbidden items for permitted ones, so as not to provoke problems later on. Zuzi seeks contact instinctively and very much needs people.

“Missed call? That was me.”
A rascal worthy of the name: mischief is his element.
Stable, very active, keen to co-operate. Vocal and persistent. Excellent “clay” for both sport and training. His new owners will have to set very clear rules and be consistent with the training process. If the rules are not kept, Lokis will walk all over you. Lokis needs very clear communication, both in words and in body language. Not a suitable dog for complete beginners with no training experience. For an inexperienced owner Lokis will be a challenge, and success will depend entirely on the owners' motivation. An ideal dog for sportspeople and for anyone wanting something “more” from a dog.
